GadjetJax educated: 5 Things You Probably Did Not Know About Sonic the Hedgehog!

1. Michael Jackson actually helped compose some of the soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, during development, Jackson quit, because he felt the audio processer for the Sega Genesis was inferior to what he was used to working with. Some songs also contain similarities to other Jackson songs, as evidenced here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HE2pPjO5-zo Because of this, some of the songs had to be altered when Sonic 3 was re-released on Windows PC in order to avoid copyright issues.

2. In order to protect copies of Sonic CD from being pirated, Sega installed a killscreen in the game that would appear if the game was being played with pirated software. The image can be seen below. The text reads: "Fun is infinite with Sega Enterprises -Majin". Majin means 'devil', suggesting this creepy screen was used to scare people illegally playing the game into thinking that a devil was possessing the game. However, this has been confirmed to be incorrect. According to Sega, 'Majin' was actually the nickname of one of the developers at Sega
(Broken Link)

3. Dr. Robotnik's design was based off of Theodore Roosevelt, and Robotnik was also planned to be the protagonist of the series, rather than being a villain.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog was the first video game character to appear as a balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The second character to be included was Pikachu from the Pokemon franchise.

5. The Sonic The Hedgehog comic series written by Archie Comics is the longest running videogame-comic book adaptation ever. The series still stands today, and over 250 issues have been released, not including compilations, specials, and crossovers.
