Join us for our young adult book discussion. The book for this month is Airman by Eoin Colfer. The discussion is Wednesday, April 2 @ 3:45. It should last for about an hour.
This is the story of Conor Broekhart, a young man who loves all things about flight; ends up accused of being a traitor; is sentenced to mine diamonds on the prison island of Little Saltee; and finally drums up his courage to try and escape. Will he???
Join us for what promises to be a good discussion about this very interesting and exciting story! Even if you haven't read the book, it's fun to hear about it and see if you'd like to read it.
In case you're wondering, Colfer wrote the Artemis Fowl series. He lives in Ireland, is married and has two children...here is a quote from him - "I will keep writing until people stop reading or I run out of ideas. Hopefully neither is these will happen anytime soon"! Do you think he enjoys his work, or what!!
I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of the book...if you've read it, go ahead and make a comment!
Just noticed the book cover....the library isn't giving away helicopter flights!
ReplyDeleteThis is Lily - I think Airman is a wonderful book - it's based inthe 1800's. It is about a boy, Conor, who was literally born in the air. He is accused of a terrible crime and has to power through many trials. This book is a great read!

During the book discussion, everyone had so many great comments - some felt that there were many stereotypical elements especially concerning the warden and prison guards. We had comments about Conor's education with Victor Vigny and how from Victor he learned how to understand people's feelings, how to defend himself and how to be noble.
ReplyDeleteWe talked about Linus Wynter who claims "we all can kill". Good discussion ensued about this....and the fact that intelligence always outwits violence. Even in violent situations, whether war, bullying, or even natural disasters, intelligence will help you deal with it.
There was a lot more, but all in all the teen book discussion was fabulous!!!!! Most were incredibly excited about the book. I didn't finish it, but the teens convinced me I MUST!! Have you read it? Tell us what you think about it? Rate it 1 - 10!
